Sell more digital products straight from your inbox, without burning yourself out on social media.

You've created a digital product, and now you need people to buy it without burning yourself out on social media. Start with my free email templates for digital product sellers to help you write your first emails. In this article, I'll show you how to use email to sell more digital products straight from your inbox, so every sales opportunity doesn't depend on you showing up, filming another video or fighting with the algorithm. Even if you're starting from zero.

Watch my free training: My Simple Email System for Daily Digital Product Sales. Recorded live on 16 September 2026.

Your next sale doesn't have to start with another social media post

Recording videos. Editing them. Figuring out what to post next. It can take hours, and you still need the right people to see it.

Email was such a big help for me because it took some of that pressure off. Instead of having to record videos all the time and be on social media, I could make sales in my inbox.

In the training, I shared that an email can take me five to ten minutes to write, usually on my phone over my morning coffee. Compare that with the hours it can take to create and edit a YouTube video. That's why I want you to start paying attention to your email list.

And there's research behind the power of email. McKinsey's 2014 analysis found email was nearly 40 times as effective at acquiring customers as Facebook and Twitter combined. That's the customer-acquisition research I referred to in the training.

Think about someone who finds your product but isn't ready to buy that day. If they join your email list, you can keep talking to them. You can answer their questions, show them what your product helps them do and send them a link to buy. You don't have to hope another post happens to reach them.

That's what we're going to build: a way to keep bringing potential buyers closer to a sale without having to create another reel every time.

If you'd like help putting this together for your own product, Tori AI can plan your freebie, email strategy and content. I'll show you how those pieces work below.

How do you sell digital products through email?

Attract potential buyers with a freebie linked to your product. Follow up with an automated email sequence that helps them get a quick win, get to know you and see a reason to buy. Then keep emailing the people who aren't ready yet. Your content brings them in; your emails give you more opportunities to make the sale.

Build an email list of potential buyers, starting from zero

First of all, you need people to send emails to. This is where a freebie, also called a lead magnet, comes in. You offer someone a useful resource in exchange for joining your email list.

But you can't just create any old freebie. Just because it's free doesn't mean your audience is going to grab it. Think about all the free PDFs you come across. Do you download every single one? Probably not.

The goal is to attract the same person who could buy your digital product. Your freebie gives them a first step towards something they want, and your paid product helps them go further. I use the GLOW model to plan that.

G

Goal specific

Zoom in on one problem your freebie can help with.

L

Linked to your product

Make it a useful first step towards your paid offer.

O

One hour to build

Keep the format small enough to create quickly.

W

Worth paying for

Give them something useful, even though it's free.

That link to your product is where people go wrong. If your freebie has nothing to do with what you sell, you can end up with plenty of downloads and very few people interested in buying.

You want someone to use your freebie and think, “She's given me something. It was free. I got a quick result from it. What's the next step?”

Keep it small enough for them to get that result. A short PDF, a set of prompts, a quiz or a small AI tool can work. For a PDF, I recommend no more than five pages. You don't need to spend weeks creating something people won't have time to finish.

Stuck on what that first step should be? Tori can help you choose a lead magnet linked to your digital product, so you're building a list with a reason to buy from you later.

Grow your email list without trying to be everywhere

You still need people to discover your freebie. But that doesn't mean spreading yourself across every platform and spending your whole day making content.

Choose one platform where your audience is and where you can keep showing up. Preferably the same one you're already using to promote your paid product. Be honest about what you have the time and energy to create.

If you're using Pinterest, a pin can bring someone to a helpful article, and the freebie in that article can bring them onto your list. From there, your emails can keep the conversation going. My Pinterest strategy for selling digital products walks through that approach.

Give each new subscriber a route to buying
  1. 01Helpful contentA pin, video or post brings the right person in.
  2. 02Relevant freebieThey join your list for a useful first step.
  3. 03Email sequenceYour follow-up keeps the conversation going.
  4. 04Paid productThey can buy straight from the link in your email.

As I said in the training, email amplifies your marketing. You still need new people coming onto your list. The difference is that once they're there, you have a way to follow up without going back on social media every five minutes.

Write emails that turn freebie interest into a reason to buy

Someone has downloaded your freebie. They've shown an interest. Now you have a chance to help them take the next step with you.

Don't leave that at a download link and silence. Set up a sequence of emails that helps them use the freebie, get to know you and see how your paid product could help them get the result they want.

In the training, I show a Tori example with about six emails. You can use these jobs to work out what your own sequence needs to say:

From freebie download to a reason to buy
The jobWhat to talk aboutWhat it helps the reader understand
Deliver the freebieGive them the resource they signed up for and help them start using it.How to get their first useful result.
Introduce yourselfWho you are, your brand and your story.Who they're hearing from and why this matters to you.
Show the result they wantWhat they want to change and how your product helps them do it.What could become easier, quicker or possible for them.
Tell the product's storyWhy you created it and how it can help. The thinking and experience behind the offer.
Invite the purchaseA clear link to buy, plus a genuine bonus or offer if you have one. What to do next and any real reason to act now.

Make the result feel relevant to their life

“I've got a digital product. Please buy it” gives someone very little to get excited about.

What do they actually want? More sales? An easier way to plan their meals? A wardrobe they feel good in? Start with the thing they're trying to change, then show how your product helps them get there.

For example, a meal-planning template can be a way to stop standing in front of the fridge every evening wondering what to cook. It's much easier to picture using the product when the email talks about a real moment in someone's day.

Use your own stories too. Why did you create the product? What were you finding difficult? What did you want to make easier? That gives people a person to connect with, as well as a product to look at.

Give them somewhere to buy

Your email can be helpful and still make an offer. Tell people what the product will help them do, then link directly to the relevant product page.

If you're running a real bonus or time-limited offer, explain it clearly. But you don't need to invent a deadline to ask for the sale. Sometimes someone simply needs to hear, “If this is what you're struggling with, here's how I can help.”

Write the follow-up once, then let it send automatically

This is the part that takes some of the pressure off you. Once you've written your sequence, you set it up in your email platform. New subscribers can go through it automatically after they sign up.

So while you're doing something else, someone can receive your freebie, read your story and get an invitation to buy. You don't have to personally send every email or record a fresh video for every new subscriber.

You still check that the links work, the emails send properly and the offer is current. But you're building something you can use again with each new person who joins your list.

Tori helps you plan the freebie and email nurture. Your email platform handles the sending once you've personalised the emails and set up the automation.

Keep making offers after the first sequence ends

Some people will buy during the sequence. Some won't be ready. Don't try to be a mind reader. They're still on your email list.

This is one of the reasons email is so useful. You can keep showing up in their inbox without having to win their attention through another social media post first. Someone who wasn't ready last week may have a different question, priority or reason to act next month.

Your regular emails give you a way to stay in touch and make another offer. They don't need to become a huge content project. Start with:

  • A question a potential buyer keeps asking. Answer it, then show where your product can help.
  • A problem they want to stop dealing with. Talk about what they'd like to change and the next step they can take.
  • Something you've learned. Share a useful lesson or story they can relate to.
  • A video or article you've already made. Give it another job instead of creating everything from scratch.
  • An invitation to buy. Tell them who the product is for, what it helps them do and where to get it.

You can reuse the same topic across an email and your other content. My weekly content theme strategy shows you how I plan around one topic so I'm not constantly starting from zero.

How often should you email your list?

If you've never sent regular emails before, start with one a week. Share something useful, a lesson from your week or a piece of content that helps your audience.

Keep that going for a month or two, then build towards two emails a week. You want people to remember you, and you want a routine you can actually keep up with. Email shouldn't become another version of the social media burnout you're trying to get away from.

What if people unsubscribe?

That's okay. If someone realises your product isn't for them, let them go. You want people who are interested in what you do and could become customers.

Be sensible, don't spam people and make it easy to unsubscribe. But don't let the possibility of someone leaving stop you from telling the people who do want your help how they can buy it.

Questions about selling digital products through email

Can I start email marketing without followers?

Yes. Start with a useful freebie linked to your digital product and promote it where your audience can find it. You don't need a large social following to begin, but you do need a way for new people to discover the freebie.

Do I need more than one freebie?

Start with one freebie connected to one product. If you already have two, focus on promoting what you've made before creating more. Keep each freebie short enough for someone to use and get a useful result.

What if subscribers finish the sequence without buying?

Keep in touch through regular, relevant emails. Some people won't be ready during the first sequence. Share useful tips, answer questions and continue telling them how your product can help.

Are the free email templates a complete email sequence?

The free download includes two email templates, completed examples and fill-in-the-blank prompts. Use them to start delivering your freebie and nurturing subscribers, then adapt and build out the sequence for your own product.

Does Tori send the emails for me?

Tori helps you plan your lead magnet, email nurture and content. You personalise the emails and set up the sending and automation in your own email platform.

Give your next sale a route beyond social media

You don't have to wait for a big following to start. One product, one relevant freebie, one platform to bring people in. Then an email sequence that gives those people a way to buy from you.
